SOTW: "What You Got" by Colby O'Donis feat. Akon

We know there's plenty of quality, aged, single malt out there--like the reissue of Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville--but sometimes the lazy, hazy, craze-eee daze of summer require something quick and easy to down while you're lounging poolside, like the 2 ingredient cocktails featured in this month's Details and Esquire magazines. (Who knew blended Scotch and ginger ale was called a "Presbyterian"?!?)

During the dog days of summer I totally listen with my bootay. And lately, under the nostalgic spell of doing Studio K research, I haven't been able to stop myself from doing the insta-snake--ATV will explain this keyword at a later date--to Colby O'Donis's perfect, post-millenial NKOTB knock-off, "What You Got."



Sure this Guyanese/Puerto Rican/Queensian baby boy in Akon's stable can't really sing, can't really dance, and isn't all that cute. [Akon (L) with his boy, Colby O'D. (R)] But the jam's synthy, smooth monotony is easy to digest. Akon's break in the middle of the song is like the surprising shot of booziness up the straw that leavens all the sweet and bubbly stuff. And anyway, we here at Oh! have a hard time resisting vocoder, even in the tiniest and teeniest of portions. So sip it fast and sip it good from the red plastic cup before all the ice melts. - (KT)
