Forget Must See TV Thursdays, and get your art on instead this July 24 at Remy's on Temple in Historic Filipinotown. RESONATE/OBLITERATE is a benefit performance for the PRAXIS MOHAVE desert art boot camp, featuring the "durational, minimal and physical live art works" of Ron Athey, Julie Tolentino, Franko B and Juliana Snapper.
The event also includes a sexy, garden lounge after-party, RADIATE/INTOXICATE, hosted by Wu Ingrid Tsang (the alluring force behind Silver Platter's Wildness) and wild compatriot Zackary Drucker. Both are Praxis scholarship artists who promise an evening of "hi-NRG performance, video and disco dancing."
Tickets are on a sliding scale from $25-$50.
Call 323.661.0322 or email PRAXISMOHAVE@gmail.com to RSVP

Julie Tolentino and I have programmed and produced an evening of performance, primarily to showcase our new works, and to benefit our upcoming high desert performance bootcamp, Praxis Mohave. Why self-produce a showcase? Because 99% of arts presenters are wimpy and/or shit-for-brains. Because it is hugely inspiring to work with Julie again. She co-directed and performed in most of my work through the 90s, and our chemistry is ramped up higher than ever. Because Juliana, my Judas Cradle collaborator, is making incredible experimental vocal works singing directly into water, pushing the voice/body experience beyond belief. And last but not least, we're fortunate enough to have a visitation from UK/Italy-based artist Franko B. in Los Angeles, my brotherly alliance that goes back to early 90s ICA days. Somehow he has never performed in the U.S., and will be showing new work...
Why a desert workshop in the heat of the summer? Because making extreme work in academia is problematic, because immersion, endurance, bodywork, bonding, survival, can spur insane revelations and productivity. Because who else is going to encourage you to sing opera, perform a live sex show, while buried in a sand dune for 12 hours? All "teachers" will be participants making work as well: facilitated by Ron Athey and Julie Tolentino, vocal training and sound composition with Juliana Snapper, proper bootcamp training with Heather Cassils, thematic hikes led by Marcia McLain, field biologist.
